Welcome

Have you ever felt like you were born in the wrong time period?  While your friends rave about a new movie’s CGI-enhanced special effects, do you still cry whenever you watch Cary Grant and Deborah Kerr in An Affair to Remember?  Never mind that you’ve seen it so many times you’re afraid the DVD will wear out!

If so, welcome home!  This blog is about trying to be the proverbial “perfect 1950s housewife” by living like our mid-century grandmothers, June Cleaver, Donna Reed, Audrey Hepburn, and Grace Kelly in today’s modern world.  Together we explore manuals, how-to books, textbooks, cookbooks, and even those scratchy old educational films to help learn what “they” don’t teach to us anymore.  This includes cooking, poise, charm, dress, beauty,  home and money management, decorating, creativity, entertaining, self-improvement, suburban/small town glamor, and the post-war can do spirit of optimism and self-sufficiency.

My youngest sister, Jill, summarizes what this blog is all about the best, I think…

“The reason I like the Modern Retro Woman blog is because it validates women like me (us) and shows that being a homemaker is about nurturing your family, but without losing one’s own graciousness and identity. No Real Housewives of OC here!”

You see, we know that by living by old-fashioned values we are able to live a fabulous life!
