Let’s face it. If you walk around the streets of a city long enough, eventually you’re going to step in gum. Or worse. Fortunately for us, we have some guidance on how to elegantly get it off without too much of a fuss. Clearly, we are to find a bench, table, or piece of modern art, coyly lift our leg while scraping our shoe on said bench, table, or piece of modern art. The bouquet of flowers helps distract onlookers from thinking that we might be defacing something of value.
And to think, I’ve been walking around with the gum still on my shoe collecting whatever sidewalk debris stuck to it. Maybe if I had carried flowers with me, it would have been different.
