When I was a little girl, our parents would occasionally load my sisters, brother, and me into the Rambler and take us to the drive-in movies. Most of the theaters in the San Fernando Valley at that time had a cowboy or mission themed mural painted on the back of the screen with the requisite neon lettering (for the record, there wasn’t a mission in Van Nuys…).
Since we didn’t have a lot of money, we brought our snacks with us. I was always a bit envious of the boys and girls in the other cars who got to go to the concession stand with their parents.
This is a great montage of drive-in commercials that were shown during intermission. Note what they call the giant size tub of popcorn and the puny, by today’s standards, cups for the soda.
