The Mister trying out his “new” vintage man-powered reel lawnmower that our landlord gave to him on a day it wasn’t raining recently…
The Mister needed to sharpen the blades, do some minor cleaning and oiling, but otherwise it was “as good as new!”
We had drought resistant succulents instead of a lawn in Los Angeles so he hadn’t had to mow a lawn in nine years. With all of the rain we’ve been having, the grass is reminding us that we now live on the prairie and the poor guy can hardly keep up with how fast it is growing! But there is something quite comforting about the sound the reel mower makes as he trims the grass versus the noise of a modern gas-powered mower and I think it has become a meditative experience for him (although he’d never admit that!).
