Wise Words of the Day: All Talk, No Action

Between saying and doing there is a great distance. ~ Unknown

Have you ever heard the phrase “Big hat, no cattle?”  It refers to someone who talks big but has no substance to them or never follows through on their promises.

With the advent of the new year, many people have made big resolutions.  As I was contemplating my “leftover goals” from last year, I realized that they were the same leftover goals from the year before that and the year before that, etc.  Upon further reflection, I realized that I hadn’t taken any serious action toward completing those goals.  I was all talk and no action.

This year, I’ve changed my focus to creating healthy habits and routines instead of creating resolutions.  If I focus on the actions, then I will ultimately achieve the goals I set for myself every year at this time.

Do you have “leftover goals” that need to be reframed?

I admit it. I tend to be mostly talk. On the other hand, I am the same person year to year with the same strengths and weaknesses. I’m attempting to correct weaknesses while keeping up with a life that moves forward. Distractions will come up, and that’s just going to happen in family life.

So, every year I make a list of how I want to proceed. And when I review the year just past, I take into consideration what I actually accomplished as well as where I didn’t meet expectations. I find that it is a process of re-framing my goals.

Mmmmmmmmmm I agree Kathy. I generally review & then try to see what I can do that will actually improve my life. Some gains, some not, but then that’s life & I feel that the important thing is to give it your best shot.
