My boss and her husband hold football season tickets. They’re not able to go to the game today, so they offered them to us. I excitedly said, “Yes, please!” After 32 years, The Mister and I will be attending our first football game together.
Can you believe it?
I was surprised when I realized this fact, too.
The forecast calls for thunderstorms. All day.
I’m going to assume that, instead of looking like a couple of drenched middle-aged people, we’ll look fabulous like the couple in this ad that have decided to make it for keeps….

Do you enjoy college football? Do you and your Honey look like this couple when you go to games?

My husband loves college football, which he watches on tv in the comfort of our home. And I love football season, too — not so much for the games but for the coziness of home and togetherness.
In my college days — late ’60s – the well-dressed co-ed had an outfit or two to wear to the games — perhaps a plaid skirt with sweater and matching jacket. Quite impractical really — one was too warm at the early games and later in the season a coat was necessary.
I remember so well that choosing your special tableware pattern went hand-in-hand with the romanticized notion of lasting love. Yes, it was marketing, but it still evokes memories of how it used to be. And note her corsage, a mum. At U-Idaho, it was a homecoming tradition for the guys to buy the big mum corsages for their dates to wear to the game. I’m wondering if the mister bought a corsage for you.
Alas, he said he didn’t.
I hope that doesn’t mean I have to break up with him now….
I think the mister has proven himself to be a keeper. However, were this a homecoming game in the ’50s and he your date, you might have to consider well the future of this relationship in view of this oversight.
