Wise Words of the Day: Crisis

In the crises of our life, our words show where our souls have been feeding. ~ H.E. Fosdick

Although our recent cross-country move was not a crisis, it turned out to be much, much more difficult than we had anticipated.  During the week of our move, we met people from all walks of life.  Some, like the nun behind the desk at a motel in the middle of nowhere or the firefighters in Wyoming who had spent the day fighting an out of control blaze, nourished our obviously stressed souls.  Others were so filled with anger and hatred that we couldn’t wait to get away from their toxicity.

There is a saying that we are what we eat.  I’d like to add to that and say that we are what we read, watch, and hear.  Is your source of nourishment positive and uplifting?  Or is it toxic?

I’ll take positive and uplifting any day, thankyouverymuch!

  • Good to hear from you Julie-Ann and I am not surprised at you “take” on folks one meets. But, of course, it takes all kinds and you know as well as I that the toxicity will come back to haunt them. Take care and hope you adjust quickly to your new home.

  • A post from Dr. J. and a comment from Dr. M. — this is already a good day! I love the quote. I like to think that my positive uplifted thoughts leaven the world, but sometimes the experiences that “grow” us come through unpleasantness. May your new home environment shield you from the toxicity of life’s highway, but may you also find productive ways to continue to share your light.

Glad to see your post. God bless you, the Mister, and your new home.

Hope your new home and job are everything that feeds you. My kids say that I keep my head in the sand. No sand here. I just would like to see only the good things and not clutter up my brain with black things. Once it is in your memory you can not get it out.

I finally learned to avoid toxic people. They are far too much work and stress. Just walk away and smile. (That ticks them off most anyway!)
