We’ve Been Having Fun All Summer Long…

My summer is coming to a close for me.  School starts for me on Monday.  For many, school already started a couple of weeks ago!  I am feeling wistful about this summer.  I had all sorts of plans regarding what I was going to accomplish–and some I have–but “family” ended up being the theme for the summer.  There was sadness in having to care for sick family members and there was joy in being asked to be my nephews’ godmother.  We enjoyed a visit from my husband’s aunt and uncle and the delight of holding baby Alice as her joie de vivre entrances us all.  And, finally, my online family of readers continue to embolden me to share my thoughts about being a modern retro woman.

When I was a teenager, The Beach Boys were my favorite group.  I’d wrangle my baby sister, Jill (Alice’s mother), into acting out their concert album using her Fisher Price Play Family Village people (those little wooden dolls).  We spent hours and hours and hours listening to the Beach Boys.  I wanted to be their Surfer Girl. (We won’t discuss my BFF Diana and I trying to learn how to surf using her father’s longboard in her backyard pool…crazy teenage girls! *laugh*)

Since we’ve been (mostly) having fun all summer long,  it just seems appropriate to close out summer’s Theatrical Thursdays with The Beach Boys singing “All Summer Long”…

  • Oh my! What a “blast from the past” for me. Now, tell me how in the world did it go by so quickly?

how in the world did it go by so quickly?

Beats me! I think there was a conspiracy somewhere and whole weeks at a time were stolen from us!

  • I am planning my version of this post. I never accomplish as much as I plan, so sometimes I just have to look back and say, “But I did this instead and it was good.”

I agree, Kathy. This summer was about focusing on what I DID get done and letting what didn’t get done go.

  • So — you’re going back to school. What will you be taking? And will this interfere with your blogging?

This semester I’ll be taking intermediate and advanced sewing classes. I’m hoping it won’t interfere but there may be weeks that I’ll only get a couple of posts out.

And, of course, I still teach as an adjunct at the graduate university.
