I think everybody should have a theme song that reminds them of the best of themselves and helps propel them toward their dreams (or, as we called it yesterday, “our moon”) and achieving the supposedly impossible.
I’ve had various theme songs over the years–”One Moment in Time” by Whitney Houston got me through graduate school–but last week I rediscovered “I’m Feeling Good” when I heard Nina Simone’s version on The Penthouse internet radio station (not affiliated with the magazine). Of course I had to go to You Tube to see if I could find it and I was reminded that Michael Buble’ covered it. And, I already had it in my cd collection! To me, this song epitomizes my desire to live in fabulous technicolor.
His official video of the song is a James Bond spoof. But I prefer the version of him singing it for the David Foster PBS special because of his energy:
What is your theme song?

ooooh, I love this song too….I remember a time when I felt very trapped, and this song got me through. I also love the soul version (ray charles?) it was also featured in the movie “last holiday” with Queen Latifah.
I’ve never had a theme song that epitomizes my goal or philosophy of life, and as I review my list of favorite songs, they just aren’t appropriate theme songs. But my mother had one — “It’s a Lovely Day Today,” by Irving Berlin, from “Call Me Madam,” published in 1950. In the show it was sung by Ethel Merman but was also recorded by Perry Como and Doris Day.
It’s a lovely day today,
So whatever you’ve got to do,
You’ve got a lovely day to do it in, that’s true.
… But if you’ve got something that must be done, and it can only be done by one, there is nothing more to say — except it’s a lovely day for saying it’s a lovely day.
The tune is upbeat and the lyrics simple, continuing to affirm a lovely day in spite of whatever you (we) have to do. But when I read the lyrics in entirety, I wonder if my mother was lonely.

Thanks for the link to the Penthouse Radio Station. I was able to add their stream to the internet radio player I have in my Swagbucks toolbar.

@Ann, I’ll have to look for those other versions!
@Kathy, I like the idea of it being a lovely day despite whatever we have to do. And, isn’t it intriguing that we continue to learn about our parents even after they are gone?
@Hairball, I’ve never heard of Swagbucks. Tell us more, please.
OOH _ what a great way to start a Monday (with all these great versions of great songs!! ) THANKS all of you!
Dr. J,
Swagbucks is one of those “use our search engine and earn points” websites. You can use the points towards many different things, but most people turn them in for the $5 Amazon.com gift certificates. I can usually earn 2 $5 gift certificates to Amazon every month which I can then use on my next regular order, or save in my Amazon.com account for future use. You can earn more than that if you work at it, but I mostly just use their search engine and do the easy stuff like daily polls.
If you would like to sign up, just click on my name to go to my blog and look for my Swagbucks referral banner on the right hand side.
Have a great week!
