I think you’re right about the role definition. I also think they were more noble about it. Raising your children with good values was important, as was keeping the house clean and providing a protected environment called “home.” I think it’s a huge subject for one who is interested. That’s why we have blogs, I guess.

I think we need it because we are bombarded with conflicting messages about our role as women and homemakers. The mission statement clarifies for us which message resonates with us.

Our mothers and grandmothers lived in an era where their roles were more defined.

I appreciate the affirmation, but the important thing is that when I read my mission statement, it inspires and motivates me.

I wonder, though — Why do we need a mission statement to be motivated and grandmother didn’t?

Here’s my rough draft:
As a home manager, my mission is to cultivate happiness and harmony in my home by putting first things first and exercising self-discipline. This will involve the culture and practice of spiritual values, the increase of knowledge and inspiration, and the development of skills, including creative skills.

This is a great article. I need to begin each day with the end in mind as you explained. I’m going to write a mission statement!
