Next week the annual ritual of the electric knives takes place: Menfolk in households all across the United States will pretend that they know how to carve a turkey. According to an article in the National Post (published right before the Canadian Thanksgiving in October), a recent poll of 800 men over 30 in Canada found that 70% of them are responsible for carving the family turkey or roast but only half of them had a “rough idea” of what they were doing. I’m guessing the results would be pretty similar for the men south of the Canadian border, too.
Truth be told, I’ve never been very confident of my own knife skills when it comes to carving meat. Luckily for us, Swift and Company created a film in the 1960′s that features home economist Martha Logan teaching us how to carve every type of meat so that we can be the envy of all our friends (including Harvey Korman).

Loved this video, Julie-Ann! Just in time for Thanksgiving too!

Loved this video – thank you Dr. Julie-Ann. I wish I got as much pleasure out of thinking of my friend’s past carving mistakes as this guy’s friend does. How bad could he have been?? Happy Thanksgiving to you!!!
