In yesterday’s post, I mentioned that the Thanksgiving menus from 50 years ago were much smaller than today’s over-abundant meals. Today, we get to see one of those meals in action.
In this film from 1951, young children are taught table manners and how to behave at a Thanksgiving meal so that everyone enjoys themselves. The pace is refreshingly slow because it is geared for young children–think Mr. Rogers visiting a factory to watch how peanut butter is made, for instance–but the slow pace enables us to take in all of the visual information this film offers (take note of the size of the turkey).
Question: Does anyone recognize the flaming dessert at the end of the meal? Is it a plum pudding?
Even though this film is geared for young children, I know an adult or two who would benefit from watching it!
